National Council wants to punish stalking more consistently

The National Council wants a separate criminal offense against stalking. It approved a corresponding amendment to the law on Thursday. The aim is to better protect the victims of such stalking.
In the overall vote, the upper chamber approved the bill by 151 votes to 29 with nine abstentions. The matter will therefore go to the Council of States.
The decree on the new criminal offense of stalking was drafted by the National Council's Legal Affairs Committee (RK-N). According to the draft, anyone who persistently stalks, harasses or threatens someone and thereby restricts their freedom of life should be punishable with a prison sentence of up to three years or a fine.
A motion from the ranks of the SVP not to accept the proposal failed to gain a majority.
