Around two million vehicles have driven over the "Astra Bridge" construction site bridge on the Recherswil-Luterbach section of the A1 in Solothurn since resurfacing work began. According to the authorities, 2.4 kilometers of roadway in the direction of Zurich were renewed in 24 stages.
The approximately 280-metre-long "Astra Bridge" has been in operation for 50 days, as the Federal Roads Office (Astra) announced on Thursday. The construction work is proceeding according to plan.
According to Astra, traffic has been running well over the past two weeks. Last weekend there was an increase in traffic due to a regional public holiday. This led to traffic jams and gridlock for several hours.
The road surface under the "Astra Bridge" is being renewed and traffic is moving over the bridge. The permitted speed is 60 kilometers per hour. The mobile bridge was optimized for its second use. The access and exit ramps were made significantly flatter.
The cost of the Federal Roads Office's prestigious project is around CHF 26 million. The "Astra Bridge" is expected to be in operation until mid-August.
