In the canton of Schaffhausen, homeowners will still not be obliged to build solar installations in the future. Voters have clearly rejected a corresponding popular initiative by the Young Greens.
After counting 24 of the 26 municipalities in Schaffhausen, the No vote for the cantonal solar initiative is 67%. The result for the city of Schaffhausen, where around half of the canton's voters live, is still pending. However, it is unlikely that the votes from the city will reverse the result.
The solar initiative demanded that solar installations be installed on suitable buildings as a matter of principle, and not just on new buildings or in the case of renovations. Solar installations should also have been installed on existing buildings no later than twelve years after the initiative was adopted.
In the cantonal council, the initiative was supported by the Greens, the SP and the GLP. The FDP, SVP and Center Party rejected the proposal.
