Accused describes his life before the crime to Baden District Court

In the murder trial at the district court of Baden AG, the accused was questioned about his life on Wednesday, with questions about the crime to follow later in the day. He confessed to killing his wife in Bergdietikon AG in September 2022.

He was very sorry to have to meet the victim's family "under these circumstances", said the accused. It was also hard that he was no longer allowed to see the children, with whom he had had a very close relationship before the crime. It was difficult to "stand up and take responsibility" now.

The 49-year-old comes from North Macedonia. He came to Switzerland as a child and has long since been naturalized. However, his parents' cultural background with its traditional Albanian value system has repeatedly led to conflicts, for example regarding the couple's roles and the children's upbringing.

Opting for the "western way"

The accused described his married life in rosy colors. "We had a kind of kindred spirit," said the accused. His wife, who was of Albanian-Kosovar origin, and he had decided on a "western path".

In favor of his wife's career, a successful business expert, the business economist, whose professional career was much bumpier, took on the role of househusband. This was not a problem for him. He was not jealous, but was happy for her, the accused assured her. He was proud of his wife.

Drowned in a bathtub

According to the indictment, there was a violent argument between the accused and his wife on September 25, 2022. In the course of the argument, he strangled her, pushed her under water in the bathtub and drowned her.

According to the indictment, the man acted out of jealousy because of the woman's extramarital relationship. The public prosecutor is demanding an 18-year prison sentence for murder. The defense attorney will announce his motions in his plea. The trial will take place on the premises of the Aargau cantonal police in Schafisheim.
