Against the backdrop of the peace conference in Switzerland, Russia is stepping up its military attacks on Ukraine, according to information from Kiev. "Over the course of the day, the enemy has intensively increased the pace of its attacks and assaults and is looking for ways to either drive a wedge into our defenses or drive the Ukrainian units out of their positions," the Ukrainian General Staff announced in its evening situation report on Sunday. According to the report, the number of battles has risen to 88. The Russian military is attempting to make further advances, particularly in the Pokrovsk region in Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

According to information from Kiev, most of the fighting took place there - 36 in total. 25 of these had been repelled, but 11 attacks were still ongoing. The information could not be verified independently. The Russian military is also said to have made ten attempts to storm Ukrainian positions in the front sections immediately to the north and south - in the Lyman area and around Kurakhove.

The Russian air force was also repeatedly deployed, dropping heavy glide bombs on the defensive positions. This has often become the tactic of the Russian military in recent months due to the obvious weakness of the Ukrainian air defense.

Since last fall, Ukraine has been on the defensive due to the long absence of arms and ammunition deliveries from the West. Kiev was recently able to stabilize the front after the resumption of deliveries. The Russian territorial gains are now only small.
