In the canton of Uri, firefighters implemented mobile flood protection measures at several locations on Sunday night. Spillways were also put into operation at several locations along the Reuss.

The recently optimized Seedorf spillway proved its worth, the cantonal police of Uri reported on Sunday. During the stormy night from Saturday to Sunday, the Reuss swelled considerably.

The spillway in Seedorf is located north of the Reuss bridge on the left side of the dam. Above a certain level of the Reuss, the dam is flooded in precisely defined sections. The water flows onto the agricultural land in a controlled manner.

Relaxation in Eastern Switzerland

The International Water Weir on the Alpine Rhine (IWWA) announced on Sunday that the closure of the Rhine forelands along this river would be partially lifted. This was after the rainfall in this area of eastern Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria had not been as heavy as forecast.

Cycle paths and footpaths on the Swiss side of the Rhine will be passable again from later this morning. The Rhine forelands are terrain chambers between the river and the outer dams, which are intended to absorb flood situations.
