A mountain climber fell to his death on the Pilatus on Saturday. The 56-year-old left the path in the Gsäss area and fell around 40 meters down a steep slope.

The man was on the descent from Pilatus together with another person, the Nidwalden cantonal police announced on Sunday. It was initially unclear why the accident occurred.

The accident was reported to the police shortly before 4.00 pm. It was reported that Rega was able to rescue the 58-year-old quickly. However, all help came too late for him.
