The Ticino authorities warned of further flooding in the Maggia Valley, Val Osernone and Val Lavizzara on Monday night. The cantonal police urged the population to stay indoors and listen to reports on the radio.

Communications and power supply in the region were still disrupted, according to the warning issued by the canton of Ticino via the Alertswiss warning service early on Monday morning. Three contact points - in Fusio, Pian di Peccia and San Carlo - had been set up for emergencies. Restoration work was therefore underway.

The population was urged not to go into cellars or underground garages. They should also stay away from bodies of water that flood.

In the Prato-Sornico zone near Lavizzara, people had to leave their homes and move to higher ground, as reported on Alertswiss. Over 300 people were evacuated in Val Lavizzara by Sunday evening.
