A 25-year-old Afghan man is to stand trial for murder at Lucerne Criminal Court on Wednesday afternoon. He is alleged to have killed an acquaintance living in Lucerne with 25 stab wounds and nine cuts.

The Lucerne public prosecutor's office is demanding an unconditional prison sentence of 16 years and an expulsion from the country for 15 years, as can be seen from the indictment on Wednesday.

The crime took place at the end of June 2022. The accused had traveled from Brest (F) to visit the victim in Lucerne and stay with him. On the morning of June 26, the accused attacked the man from behind and stabbed him in the neck, back, chest and other parts of his body.

In the indictment, the public prosecutor wrote that the victim was unable to defend herself as she was lying on her stomach and was attacked from behind. It is also possible that she was asleep at the time of the attack.

After the killing, the accused left the apartment and ran towards Lucerne railroad station. He was arrested in France on July 1 and extradited to Switzerland on January 30, 2023. Since then, he has been serving an early sentence. The presumption of innocence applies.
