A BKW Group company wants to build a wind farm together with Groupe E. This is a bi-cantonal project in the Bernese Jura and the canton of Neuchâtel.

BKW's Société des Forces Electriques de La Goule (SEG) is joining the two companies Groupe E Greenwatt and Eoliennes La Joux-du-Plâne-L'Echelette, according to a joint press release issued on Thursday. Together they intend to develop the Quatre Bornes wind farm.

The planned nine wind turbines with an annual production of almost 63 million kilowatt hours are expected to cover around 80 percent of the electricity consumed by the two municipalities of Val-de-Ruz and Sonvilier - households and businesses. SEG will contribute 10 percent of the capital to the future operating company.

This partnership will combine the expertise of the various players and enable SEG to diversify its energy sources, according to the statement.

According to the information provided, SEG supplies a population of 20,000 inhabitants. 90 percent of its electricity comes from renewable sources, including hydro, wind and solar energy.

On the Neuchâtel side, the project was approved by all cantonal authorities. However, residents of the Bern-Jura municipality of Sonvilier have opposed the planned wind farm. There will be a new vote on September 22, 2024. The six wind turbines now planned on the Bernese side are a compromise. Three turbines are planned in Val-de-Ruz.
