The closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris will also be a little bit Swiss. Valais designer Kevin Germanier has created the outfits for the participants of the event, which will take place on August 11 at the Stade de France.
The 32-year-old designer was contacted by French journalist, TV presenter and stylist Daphné Bürki, head of the costume department, "because of another project for the Olympic Games". Germanier said this in an interview with the online portal lematin.ch.
"That's how I got to know Thomas Joly, the artistic director of the ceremonies. Everything happened in a very natural way. They liked what I had proposed for the other project and they asked me to make the first drawings for the closing ceremony. Then they asked me to design all the costumes," he revealed.
The designer, who has been working on the project for six months, has created a total of around 100 outfits for the artists, acrobats and singers who will be performing at the Stade de France. That's three times as many as for a traditional fashion show.
"As always, all of our costumes were made from recycled fabrics," he said. Germanier could not reveal any details about the costumes or the closing ceremony.
One of Germanier's trademarks is "upcycling". Using this process, he transforms waste from the textile industry into elegant and ethical haute couture pieces.
The designer from Granges VS graduated from the renowned Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London in 2021. He has dressed stars such as Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Rihanna. The House of Germanier has been a permanent fixture at Paris Fashion Week since 2020.
