The Swiss Foreign Ministry has condemned the rocket attack on a busy sports field in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights that left twelve children and young people dead. It urged all parties involved in the conflict to exercise the utmost restraint.

Attacks on civilians are prohibited under international law, according to a statement from the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) on the X news service on Sunday. All too many civilians have already lost their lives in the conflict since October 7. All parties involved must exercise the utmost restraint and work towards de-escalation.

Saturday evening's rocket attack on the sports field on the Golan Heights sparked international fears of an escalation of violence in the region. UN representatives called on both parties to exercise "the greatest possible restraint". The USA and the EU also condemned the attack.

Israel and the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah have come to the brink of open war as a result of the attack. Israel holds the militia responsible for the attack and, according to its military, attacked a number of terrorist targets of the militia in Lebanon during the night.

Twelve people between the ages of ten and twenty were killed in the attack. The rocket hit a sports field in the village of Madschd al-Schams. Hezbollah announced that it had nothing to do with the attack.

Israel calls this a "lie". Forensic investigations have shown that it is an Iranian missile that is only used by Hezbollah.
