62-year-old in Ticino charged with promoting prostitution

The public prosecutor's office in Ticino has brought charges against a Chinese citizen living in Italy. The 62-year-old is accused of forcing another Chinese citizen into prostitution in Lugano and exploiting her.

According to the Ticino cantonal police, the woman kept part of the profit made from the erotic services herself.

The activities had taken place without the necessary permits for gainful employment. In addition, they were carried out in an apartment that was not licensed for prostitution. According to information from the police, the incidents took place between the end of March and mid-April.

Investigation into prostitution ring

The Ticino cantonal police came across the accused woman last April as part of a larger investigation into an illegal prostitution ring. The investigation led to a search of the apartment in question and the provisional arrest of the woman, the press release continues. However, the accused has since been released.

The woman is accused of promoting prostitution, practising prostitution illegally, violating the Federal Act on Foreign Nationals and employing foreign nationals without a permit.
