At the end of July, a wolf attacked and seriously injured an adult pony on an alp in Brusio GR - it has now been released for shooting. Because the wolf does not belong to a pack, the canton of Graubünden was able to grant permission to shoot it.

The cantonal gamekeeper must now shoot the predator within 60 days. The shooting permit is only valid for this period, as the Graubünden Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Mobility (Diem) published on its website on Tuesday.

Shooting permits may only be issued if wolves "cause significant damage to livestock", Diem continued. This was fulfilled in the present case because the wolf had seriously injured the pony. Further "attacks" are now to be expected, which is why the predator will be shot.
