Switzerland's first children's hospice opens its doors in Bern on August 13. According to the operator, it closes a gap in the Swiss healthcare system.
The children's hospice offers space for up to eight children and young people with life-shortening illnesses as well as their siblings and parents, as the Allani Children's Hospice Bern Foundation announced on Thursday.
The care of the sick children is taken care of and their families are relieved psychologically and physically. This makes the hospice the missing link between acute medical care in hospital and children's Spitex.
The children's hospice is located in a converted farmhouse in the hamlet of Riedbach near Bern. The project was made possible entirely through donations, as the press release explains further. As not all operating costs are covered by health and disability insurance, the institution is primarily funded by donations until further notice.
