Switzerland is adopting further EU sanctions against Russia. On Wednesday, the Federal Council decided to apply measures from what is now the 14th package of sanctions in Switzerland. They will apply from August 27.
The measures are clarifications aimed at harmonizing the bans on Russian diamonds. Effective implementation of the sanctions against Russia and international coordination are of great importance, the Federal Council wrote on Wednesday's decision.
It has also extended the deadlines for granting exemptions with regard to the withdrawal of investments from Russia. The aim is to ensure that Swiss companies can legally cease their business activities.
Further measures from the EU's 14th sanctions package are currently being examined in detail. The Federal Council will deal with them soon.
These include measures against business with liquefied natural gas (LNG) and provisions designed to make it more difficult to circumvent sanctions. For example, Russia's arms industry is to be prevented from using Western technology to manufacture weapons.
On 9 July, the Federal Council added a further 69 individuals and 47 organizations to the sanctions list.
