Passenger dies in accident in Grabserberg SG

An 84-year-old female passenger has died following an accident in Grabserberg SG. The driver of the car that crashed into a tree fled the scene of the accident on foot. The police found her two hours after the accident with the help of drones and dogs.
Four people were in the car when it veered left off the edge of the road on a right-hand bend and crashed head-on into a tree, the St. Gallen cantonal police wrote in a statement on Wednesday. A 63-year-old passenger sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the accident and was flown to hospital by helicopter. A 54-year-old female passenger sustained undetermined injuries.
The 56-year-old driver of the vehicle was also injured and was taken to hospital, according to the press release. She was an Austrian woman from Styria. The police classified her as unfit to drive and ordered a blood and urine sample to be taken. Her driver's license for Switzerland was revoked. She will be reported to the public prosecutor's office of the Canton of St. Gallen.
