Resistance to ESC in Basel

The Federal Democratic Union (EDU) wants to prevent the Eurovision Song Contest from being held in Basel from May 13 to 17, 2025. The party announced a referendum against the funding proposal on social media on Friday.
They are ready to go and will launch the referendum in a few days, the EDU announced on Platform X. The party described the ESC as a "propaganda event".
According to the cantonal government, the Basel parliament is to decide on September 11 on a financing bill of CHF 34.9 million for the ESC in Basel.
