Savings for the army are a frontal attack on security policy

For Alliance Sud, the cutbacks in favor of the Swiss army at the expense of international cooperation (IC) are a frontal attack on a holistic security policy. The association announced this in a communiqué on Thursday.
The National Council is thus ignoring the fact that IC is an integral part of a holistic security policy, wrote Alliance Sud, the Swiss Competence Center for International Cooperation and Development Policy.
In addition, IC has already had to implement significant reductions in other development aid in order to compensate for additional funds planned by the Federal Council for Ukraine, the statement continued. Any additional cuts at the expense of the poorest would call into question Switzerland's proven international cooperation.
Gsoa calls for threat analysis
The Group for a Switzerland without an Army (Gsoa) finds the financial armament at the expense of IC frightening. It plays an important role in the prevention of conflicts. If it were to fall victim to military rearmament, it would be a declaration of bankruptcy. Other security-relevant areas such as climate protection or social security would also suffer from the massive armament. In view of the many crises, we cannot afford this.
The Gsoa criticizes "the senseless arms race" and calls for "a sober threat analysis". The State Secretariat for Security Policy also continues to maintain that a military threat from an attack on land or from the air is unlikely, writes the Gsoa. The 2024 Armed Forces Dispatch, which is geared towards an escalating armed conflict, serves the army leadership to procure the material it requires.
