The realization of a wind farm in the municipality of Tramelan BE has been delayed. The Federal Supreme Court has granted suspensive effect to an application for a revision of its ruling from November 2023. In this decision, it essentially rejected complaints against the project.

The revision was requested by a resident of Tramelan on the grounds that a colony of brown long-eared bats had taken up residence in his house. These bats, which were named Pro Natura's Animal of the Year 2012, are considered endangered, like almost all bats in Switzerland.

The Federal Supreme Court stated that it was up to the court to decide whether the appearance of these bats constituted a new fact that would allow the case to be re-examined. In the meantime, all work in connection with the construction or operation of the controversial wind turbine would be suspended.

The "Montagne de Tramelan" wind farm project was initiated by BKW Energie and will comprise seven wind turbines. Annual production is estimated at around 28 gigawatt hours. (Judgement 1F_13/2024 of 10.10.2024)
