The Federal Office for the Environment has lodged a complaint against the planned boathouse at Roger Federer's villa in Rapperswil-Jona SG. The federal government is keeping mum about the reasons for its intervention.

The complaint by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) is directed against the approval already granted by the city for the demolition of the existing boathouse and the construction of a new boathouse with a jetty and access channel. This was reported by the Linth-Zeitung in its Wednesday edition.

At the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, the FOEN confirmed that it had lodged an appeal against the permit. It remained unclear what violation of the law the federal government is claiming in its complaint to the authorities, referring to the ongoing proceedings. The FOEN could not comment on this. However, the rest of the construction project has not been called into question.

Canton rejects objections

There has long been opposition to the construction of a new boathouse on the lakeside of Roger Federer's property. The project triggered a total of four legal proceedings.

The Rives Publiques association, for example, which campaigns for free access to lakeshores, fought vehemently against the construction project.

At the beginning of September, the city of Rapperswil-Jona finally granted permission for the construction of a new boathouse with a jetty. The pending objections were rejected by both the town council and the relevant cantonal authorities.

In 2019, it was announced that Roger Federer had bought a plot of land measuring almost 17,000 square meters in Kempratner Bucht in Rapperswil-Jona. Six buildings are now under construction on the site directly on Lake Zurich. Several objections, old development plans, a dispute over the lakeshore path and the pandemic postponed construction several times.
