Ticino woman on trial for alleged assisted suicide

A trial against a 67-year-old woman began on Wednesday at the Ticino Cantonal Criminal Court in Lugano. She is accused of incitement and assisted suicide. She is alleged to have accompanied seven people to their voluntary deaths in Chiasso.

According to the indictment, the assisted suicides in Chiasso occurred between the end of October 2016 and the beginning of February 2017, with the woman earning just under 41,000 francs in the process, according to the indictment. The accused accompanied her clients to their deaths as part of her association "Carpe Diem". The association was founded by her, as the presiding judge noted.

The accused had previously worked for the euthanasia organization "Exit" in Ticino for 13 years. According to her own statement, the woman accompanied a total of 100 people to voluntary death in her lifetime.
