For the first time, OFCOM has opened supervisory proceedings against SRG. The reason for this is the suspected violation of the license due to the live broadcast of a football match on the SRF Info repeat channel.

This station is there to repeat information programs that were previously shown on SRF 1 or 2. In exceptional cases, programs about "events of national importance" may be broadcast live. The Federal Department of the Environment, Transport and Energy (DETEC) confirmed a corresponding report from "Schweiz am Wochenende" on Saturday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

Upon request, the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) stated that further clarification was required regarding the interpretation of the term "event of national importance". SRG now has the opportunity to comment on the procedure and the open questions. The procedure will be concluded with an appealable ruling.

If OFCOM determines in its ruling that a breach of the license has occurred, it is possible that it will demand a report from the SRG with precautions on how the license provision can be complied with.

For SRG, the criterion "events of national importance" refers to events that are not merely of regional significance. Regardless of whether they take place in Switzerland or abroad. According to SRG, an actual connection to Switzerland is not necessary.

At the end of August, Swiss television broadcast the football match between Red Star Belgrade and Bodö/Glimt from Norway on SRF Info. Private media companies repeatedly accuse Swiss television of deliberately violating its license in order to increase its market share.
