SP calls on Confederation to buy Sandoz

At the party conference in Davos on Sunday, the SP Switzerland published a position paper calling for the purchase of the pharmaceutical company Sandoz by the federal government. This should be transferred to a non-profit organization and financed by an interest-free loan from the Swiss National Bank.
According to the party conference, the generics manufacturer Sandoz costs around CHF 15 billion. As a non-profit company, Sandoz should improve the supply of generics, standard medicines and new antibiotics. At present, every 13th medicine is missing and the situation threatens to escalate further "due to the profit logic of the pharmaceutical companies".
In a motion, the SP Zurich wanted to forego the purchase and instead call on the federal government to set up its own non-profit institution for the production of medicines, vaccines and raw materials. Buying Sandoz at market prices would be inefficient. In the end, the delegates voted clearly in favor of the purchase.
