The Federal Criminal Court has sentenced a Romanian man to 66 months' imprisonment for blowing up an ATM in Sevelen SG. He was acquitted at the first attempt. Because his crony confessed after all, the crime could be proven.

The trial against the 34-year-old was therefore reopened. The two Romanians used explosives to break into the ATM. Property damage of around 100,000 francs was caused to the residential and commercial building.

During the crime in December 2019, numerous people were asleep in the apartments above the ATM. No one was injured. The two men stole 126,000 francs.

According to the decision of the Appeals Chamber published on Monday, the sentence of around three years already served will be taken into account. After serving his sentence, the convicted person may not enter Switzerland for ten years. The judgment is not yet final and can be appealed to the Federal Supreme Court.
