Over 20 centimeters of snow in places in the lowlands

The snow cover grew to over 20 centimetres in places in the lowlands on Friday night. The federal measuring stations in Zurich Fluntern and Binnigen BL, for example, registered 27 centimetres of snow at 02:00.

In Wädenswil ZH, there was 29 centimetres of snow at 2 a.m., as the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (MeteoSwiss) reported on the X online platform.

The measuring station in the city of St. Gallen recorded 25 centimetres of snow. In Zollikofen BE, there was 21 centimetres of snow at the time of the measurement, as the measured values on the MeteoSwiss website showed.

Snowfall down to the lowlands caused disruption to road, rail and air traffic on Thursday. SBB is also expecting disruptions on Friday, as it announced late Thursday evening. According to the MeteoSwiss forecast, there are likely to be isolated snow showers in the lowlands on Friday.
