The Hergiswil exit of the A2 highway and the outer stretch in the direction of Lucerne were closed on Monday due to falling rocks. No one was injured. Traffic was diverted. The reopening was planned for Tuesday after 4 pm.
A piece of rock above the highway had broken off on Monday afternoon, as Gaudenz Oetterli from the Federal Roads Office (Astra) said on Tuesday when asked. Stones with a maximum diameter of 20 centimetres had ended up on the carriageway. Stones and wood also got stuck in the safety net.
There was nothing to repair. According to the police, one car was hit by a stone. But there was only bodywork damage.
The Hergiswil exit was closed for safety reasons. Experts inspected the site of the rockfall and came to the conclusion that there was no longer any danger.
The reopening of the section was originally planned for Tuesday afternoon. However, it was postponed until the afternoon because smaller stones were still moving.
