The Organization of the Swiss Abroad (OSA) believes that the conclusion of the negotiations between Switzerland and the EU will secure residence and working conditions. This is still possible thanks to the free movement of persons.

The free movement of persons is key for European Swiss nationals living abroad, according to a press release issued by the OSA on Friday. 57% of all Swiss abroad would have been living in an EU or EFTA member state at the end of 2023. Thanks to the Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons, they are basically free to choose their place of work and residence within these states and are largely treated equally to nationals of EU and EFTA states.

In particular, Swiss nationals abroad who do not have any European citizenship in addition to their Swiss citizenship are dependent on the free movement of persons to safeguard their rights.
