The Swiss Federal Council has approved a revision of the gymnasiale Maturität, the Swiss secondary school graduation exam. The revision includes strengthening the language of instruction and mathematics, offering additional core subjects such as economics, law and computer science, and expanding the selection of specialised subjects. It also requires a minimum of four school years before taking the exam. Furthermore, student exchanges are to be encouraged. The revision is intended to ensure access to higher education and to strengthen the study skills of graduates. The revised regulations, regulations, agreement and framework curriculum will come into force on 1 August 2024. The rules for passing the Maturitätsprüfung remain unchanged.
