After a fire in an industrial hall in Vétroz VS, authorities have found no significant amounts of problematic pollutants. Following a high concentration of fine dust during the fire at the beginning of July, no further peak values have been recorded in air quality monitoring stations. Analysis of dust samples on the day after the fire on July 6th showed the presence of mainly aluminium and zinc, and to a lesser extent lead and copper. No problematic pollutants such as dioxins, furans, cadmium and PFAS were detected. The fire caused a peak value in the fine dust concentration one hour after the start of the fire at 5pm. Since then, no further massive peak values have been recorded. The heavy rains of the past week have washed away the dust from the fire, according to the authorities. Following the major fire in the industrial hall in Vétroz, a grazing and harvesting ban was initially imposed on fruits, vegetables, fodder and arable crops in the region. In addition, the canton advised against swimming in the affected area.
