An Israeli start-up company has submitted the first application for cultured meat in Europe in Switzerland. However, the product is not expected to be available in stores before 2030. Aleph Farms submitted the application to the Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (BLV) in collaboration with Migros, which has invested in the company since 2019. Aleph Farms is based in Israel and is a cellular agriculture company aiming to improve sustainability, food safety and animal welfare. If the authorities approve the application, this would be a first in Europe. Similar applications have also been made in Asia and the United States. Once the authorities have given their approval, the product will initially be available in upscale restaurants. It is unlikely that cultured meat will be available in supermarkets before 2030.
