The Canton of Thurgau has prepared for disaster relief with a new training ground. The simulated rubble field uses the latest tools to practice targeted rescues from rubble after earthquakes or rocket attacks. The Canton has updated its equipment for disaster response and built a new training facility in the Civil Protection Centre in Frauenfeld. The facility will be used to train civil protection personnel from the end of August. The Canton has also purchased modern equipment worth 250,000 francs to aid in rescue from rubble, such as detecting leaks in gas lines, movements of building parts, sounds of people or heartbeats of unconscious people. The equipment is intended for use within Switzerland, where the greatest earthquake risk is in the Valais, Basel, Graubünden and the St. Gallen Rhine Valley.nnnn
