Tragic avalanche on Pigne d’Arolla claims two lives; one alpinist survives, according to Valais police and Italian news agency Ansa.
Two people were killed in an avalanche in the Valais Alps on Whit Sunday. A third alpinist survived, according to the Italian news agency Ansa.
The Valais cantonal police confirmed an avalanche accident with two fatalities on request, but without giving any details. They promised more information in the afternoon.
According to Ansa, the alpinists were swept away by the avalanche on the Pigne d’Arolla, a peak almost 3,800 meters high between the Matterhorn and the Grand Combin. Two of them were killed. A third alpinist survived.
