Graubünden mourns as an avalanche near Klosters tragically claims two lives. The victims, a 54-year-old man and his 57-year-old companion from the canton of Bern, were touring skiers caught in the disaster.
The duo was descending from the Silvrettahütte to Klosters when multiple avalanches swept them over rocky terrain, causing fatal injuries.
The incident has heightened concerns, with 14 lives now lost to avalanches in the region this winter. The cantonal police of Graubünden, along with the public prosecutor’s office, have commenced an investigation to uncover the details of the accident.
Statistics from the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research reveal a worrying trend, with 143 avalanche accidents recorded this winter, affecting 190 individuals. The community and authorities are urged to reinforce safety measures and awareness to prevent further tragedies.
