Demonstrators from Basel NaziFrei engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with police in Basel on Saturday afternoon. Police repeatedly used rubber shot and pepper-spray.
The police were present with a large contingent and encircled about 100 demonstrators of Basel NaziFrei on the Dreirosenanlage, as reported by a journalist Keystone-SDA. However, other demonstration groups formed. Police used rubber shot on the Dreirosenbrücke and Dreirosenanlage. A water cannon and irritants were also used.
The police appeared tense – for example, a police car drove into a fence on Claramatte. And in Kleinbasel, a Zurich water cannon rammed into a parked car.
The canton of Basel-Stadt had banned all rallies for this weekend. The reason is the situation in the Middle East. Nevertheless, Basel nazifrei called for a demonstration in Basel. The background to this is a demonstration announced by Mass-Voll! and Friends of the Constitution on Saturday afternoon in the Rhine Park in Weil am Rhein, Germany.
