A truck caught fire on the A2 highway between Amsteg and Wassen UR on Thursday night. The highway was closed in both directions due to the firefighting work, according to the Uri cantonal police.

It was not known after 02:00 whether there were any injuries in the vehicle fire. The extinguishing work was still ongoing, said a spokesperson for the Uri cantonal police at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

The Gotthard road tunnel was closed, as announced by the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) on the X platform, formerly Twitter. The fire did not occur in the tunnel, the police spokesperson emphasized. The tunnel was closed as a safety measure due to the fire-fighting work.
