Electricity prices in Switzerland are set to rise significantly in 2024, according to the Swiss Electricity Commission (Elcom). The average household will pay around 18% more, or an additional 200 francs, for their electricity. This equates to 32.14 cents per kilowatt hour for basic supply, an increase of 4.94 cents per kilowatt hour or 222 francs per year. There may be significant local variations due to differences in energy procurement and strategies. Small and medium businesses will also see an increase in network costs and energy prices. The tariffs are made up of network usage tariffs, energy tariffs, taxes to the community and a network surcharge. All of these factors are increasing, with the exception of the network surcharge which remains the same. The increase is due to the pre-price increase procurement for 2023, the cost of winter reserves being passed on to consumers, and the increased capital interest rate set by the Swiss Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (Uvek). The tariffs for 2024 are available on the Elcom electricity price website and can be compared. However, some areas have not submitted their data on time, so no tariffs are available for these areas.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
