The Neuchâtel government has promised to support the owners of the forests affected by the devastating storm in the La Chaux-de-Fonds region on July 24th. The state has provided 525,000 Swiss francs to help with the work of harvesting, removing and processing the wood. Additional assistance is being provided by Fondssuisse, the Swiss Fund for Assistance in Uninsurable Natural Disasters, as announced by State Councillor Laurent Favre to the media in La Chaux-de-Fonds. This fund covers 80% of the damage costs. The canton of Neuchâtel has also approached the federal government to receive support through the Forest Program agreement. 90 agricultural businesses have been affected, with 1500 hectares of forest and 110 hectares of wytweiden (man-made meadows used for grazing and wood harvesting) severely damaged. The situation remains difficult, according to Environment Director Favre. The government is providing financial assistance to the affected owners to help them with the work of harvesting, removing and processing the wood, as well as covering 80% of the damage costs.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
