In order to ensure a successful integration of Switzerland into the European internal market, SP-Nationalrat Jon Pult believes that a package of internal political reforms should accompany the process. This would help to compensate for any potential disadvantages that may arise. At a press conference announcing his candidacy for the Federal Council on Monday in Bern, Pult said that strong mandate for negotiations with the EU is needed. He also emphasized that internal measures are necessary. Pult clearly declared his support for wage protection in response to a journalist's question. He stated that wage protection is very important for Switzerland. Pult, a 38-year-old author of a European paper for the Swiss People's Party, which defined EU membership as a distant goal, acknowledged that his role would be completely different if he were a member of the government. "I am fully aware that the majority of Swiss people do not want to join the EU, and I would accept that," he said. At the same time, he is convinced that a majority wants stable relations with the EU.
