Travel Behavior of the Swiss Population Almost Back to Pre-Corona

The Swiss population is almost as travel-happy as before the coronavirus pandemic. Almost 90 percent of them made at least one trip with one or more overnight stays abroad in 2022, an increase of 29 percent compared to 2021. In total, there were 21.1 million such trips last year, almost the same as in the period immediately before the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the Federal Statistical Office (BFS). In 2019, there were 21.9 million trips. Men, people over 65 and German-speaking Swiss were particularly keen to travel. On average, each person living in Switzerland made 2.6 trips with overnight stays and 8.0 day trips. 40 percent of trips with overnight stays and 92 percent of day trips were made in Switzerland.
