In the future, drivers of vehicles with automation systems will be able to let go of the steering wheel. Automated parking without the presence of a driver will also be possible. The Swiss Federal Council has sent corresponding regulations to the consultation. Vehicles with automation systems will require a type approval in order to be admitted to traffic, as the Federal Roads Office (Astra) announced on Wednesday. In addition, the manufacturers must demonstrate in a comprehensive manner how the traffic safety is ensured during the automated driving. If this is the case, it will be allowed for the drivers of these cars to let go of the steering wheel after the activation of the automation system. They will no longer have to monitor the traffic and the vehicle constantly, but must always be ready to take control again. In addition, the Federal Council wants to enable automated parking without a driver on defined and signalled parking spaces.
