Mauro Poggia in Geneva for Council of States Elections in the Lead

In Geneva, the second round of the Council of States elections is taking place. Mauro Poggia of the MCG (Mouvement citoyens genevois) is leading the first round with over 700 votes ahead of the incumbent Lisa Mazzone (Green) and Carlo Sommaruga (SP). Poggia received 38,761 votes, while Mazzone received 38,019 votes and Sommaruga 37,838 votes. Céline Amaudruz of the SVP (28,365 votes) was fourth, significantly ahead of the incumbent National Councilor and SVP President of Geneva Simone de Montmollin (19,993 votes). No candidate achieved the absolute majority of 55,057 votes, so a second round of voting is necessary. The parties have until Tuesday noon to submit their lists. This second round of voting will take place on November 12th.
