Swiss Air to Utilize AI for Passenger Recognition

From April to June, Swiss Airlines experimented with using AI to count its passengers. Going forward, all passengers will now be filmed upon boarding.
Swiss Air has successfully completed a three-month test of AI and cameras for passenger recognition. While the system was able to reliably count the number of passengers boarding, there is still potential for improvement in distinguishing between passengers and staff, as the airline confirmed to news agency AWP in response to a request from Travelnews.ch.
The Swiss are definitely planning to replace the manual counting process with automated AI in the medium term. "At this point in time, we are preparing the next steps for implementation, but due to the ongoing tender for an IT partner, we cannot provide any further details yet," said a spokesperson.
