In mid-August, the Vaudois police made one of the biggest drug finds in their history. During house searches in Lonay VD and Plan-les-Ouates GE, a total of more than 650 kilograms of cannabis products were confiscated.
In addition to the cannabis products, the police seized 1.3 kilograms of cocaine and 21.5 grams of MDMA (ecstasy), as the Vaud police announced on Friday. The value of these drugs is estimated at 5.4 million francs.
More than 10,000 marijuana plants were also discovered and destroyed at the suspected headquarters of the drug ring in Lonay. It is still unclear how long the illegal production had been going on. According to a newspaper article in the "Journal de Morges", the cannabis plantation was discovered in a former cookie factory.
It is undoubtedly one of the biggest drug finds ever made in the canton of Vaud, said Vincent Derouand, spokesman for the Vaud public prosecutor's office, on Friday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.
Twelve arrests
The police operations in Lonay and Plan-les-Ouates were carried out by the drugs brigade of the Vaudois security police and the gendarmerie of Morges VD. So far, twelve people have been arrested in connection with this case.
The suspects are Swiss, French, Portuguese, Colombian and Congolese, aged between 28 and 49. They are accused of serious violations of the Narcotics Act. Two of them are currently still in custody.
