Due to the large number of reports, the federal government wants to increase its contribution to the independent reporting office for abuse in sport by CHF 600,000 in 2024 and CHF 600,000 in 2025. More reports were received than expected in the first year of operation in 2022, and Parliament increased the federal contribution by CHF 360,000.

The independent reporting office Swiss Sport Integrity also recorded a high and increasing number of reports in the current year, as announced by the Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) on Tuesday. The office, which is organized as a foundation, is open to all sportspeople to report violations and irregularities.

In 2022, the registration office expected operating costs of CHF 1.1 million, of which the federal government would cover 60% and the umbrella organization Swiss Olympic 40%. However, the high number of entries already made an increase necessary at that time.

Federal Councillor Viola Amherd decided to increase the budget for the next two years so that the office can continue to carefully clarify the reports and the duration of the proceedings does not increase.

Parliament still has to approve the funds during the budget debate in December. Swiss Olympic has already approved the increase in the association's contribution by CHF 400,000 for each of the two years.

The DDPS assumes that the number of reports will initially continue to increase. On the one hand, the prevention work in the sports associations has started, but the cultural change will take time. On the other hand, the office is well-known and enjoys a high level of credibility, which encourages those affected to come forward. For the Confederation, it is a key element in anchoring basic ethical values in sport.
