The airline Swiss and the cabin crew union Kapers have finalized the components of the new collective labor agreement (CLA). Employees will receive more pay, an inflation adjustment and higher expenses.

The basic salary will be increased by CHF 400 per month, Swiss announced in a communiqué on Friday. The contract also includes a two percent salary increase to compensate for inflation. This has already been implemented since January 1, 2023.

Cabin employees from their third year of service could also choose from several salary models. For example, a pro rata, guaranteed 13th month's salary or a performance-related bonus are possible.

Operational plans published earlier

Swiss also wants to improve the quality of life of cabin crew. The duty roster will be published a week earlier on the 18th of the previous month, which will make it easier to plan social life. In addition, seven days off per month will be fixed in the duty roster. In addition, Swiss will compensate on-call duty additionally.

In addition, the CLA offers new part-time models with more variable working hours, more flexible transfer options during the year and various simplifications for older employees. In total, Swiss is investing around CHF 200 million in the new collective labor agreement over the next five years.

Coordination necessary

The new CLA is not yet completely finalized. The 15-day consultation period prescribed by Kapers begins (today) on Friday. From November 25, union members will be able to vote on the CLA until December 19, 2023. If accepted, the collective labor agreement will enter into force on January 1.

The airline and Kapers had already reached an agreement in principle three weeks ago. Since then, they have edited and finalized the new CLA.

The struggle for a new CLA has been going on for some time. However, an initial agreement was rejected by Kapers members in a vote at the beginning of the year.
