The 27th International Short Film Festival in Winterthur came to an end on Sunday evening. The festival recorded a total of around 18,000 admissions, as announced by the festival management on Monday night.

From November 7 to 12, the film festival showcased the full spectrum of current Swiss and international short film production. "In addition to the very good admission figures, which even surpassed 2019, I was particularly pleased with the generally full cinemas this year. We've never had so many sold-out screenings," said Stefan Dobler, Commercial Director of the Short Film Festival. This year's main prize in the international competition went to the Japanese short film "Oyu" (France/Japan 2023), which is about the last night of the year in a public bath in a small Japanese town. The film impressed the jury with its emotional depth: it is about grief, but also about community. The latter is also at the heart of "Pacific Club" by Valentin Noujaïm (Qatar, France 2023), which received this year's Prix George for best documentary form. In the Swiss competition, Basil da Cunha won with a Portuguese-Swiss co-production set in an illegal neighborhood in Lisbon. The ZKB Audience Award went to Mohammad Valizadegan for "And Me, I'm Dancing Too" (Iran, Czech Republic, Germany 2023), a portrait of a generation of young Iranians. The next Short Film Festival will take place from November 5 to 10, 2024.
