Mélanie Richoz is the winner of the RTS 2023 Audience Award for her novel "Nani". The Gruyère native accepted the award, which comes with prize money of CHF 10,000, at a ceremony in Lausanne on Sunday.

For Nicolas Julliard, producer of the Quartier Livre program on RTS La Première and president of the jury, "Mélanie Richoz has written one of the most terrible and powerful novels of this year".

In the final pre-selection, the jury kept the following works for the final discussion: "Les Silences" by Luca Brunoni, "Vie et Oeuvre de Marcel Parnaan" by Joan Suris and "Gonzalo et les autres" by Bénédicte Belpois.

The jury of 14 readers, who are members of the RTS audience, read around 50 works published during the year and took part in several deliberation sessions. This is one of the most important literary prizes in French-speaking Switzerland, as RTS explained in a press release.

Richoz's novel is a work of fiction based on true events and tells the story of a woman's drama: Albina is sold by her brother to another man and forcibly married at the age of 14. Beaten and humiliated, she lives for years in a small apartment in Freiburg, under the supervision of her tormentor's family.
