The Eastern Switzerland Intergovernmental Conference (ORK) has called on the federal government to halt the electronic patient file. Before parliament decides on additional funding, the fundamental problems must be solved, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.

The Federal Council is planning two proposals for electronic patient files (EPDG). The governments of Eastern Switzerland now fear "that these proposals will drive up health insurance premiums".

The templates do not advance the digitization process because existing design flaws have not yet been resolved. Several problems need to be tackled first. For example, the electronic patient file is based on an outdated technical solution. There is hardly any benefit for patients. Furthermore, the cost-reducing effect is also lacking.

A decision on additional funding should therefore only be made once these fundamental design flaws have been rectified. The cantons of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden, Glarus, Graubünden, Schaffhausen, St. Gallen and Thurgau are represented in the ORK. The Canton of Zurich and the Principality of Liechtenstein are associate members.
