The Greens have called for renewal in the Federal Council. "Change is never easy, but it is always possible," said Green parliamentary group leader Aline Trede before the Federal Assembly. On Wednesday, the councillors have the chance to make a change and ensure that more voters are represented in the government.

The Greens want to wrest a seat from the FDP and launch their attack in the election of Ignazio Cassis. Around a quarter of voters are currently not represented in the government, said Trede. Green businessman Gerhard Andrey could at least partially correct this.

No member of the Federal Council is prioritizing the climate crisis, Trede continued. "We are ready to take responsibility for this in government."

"With just under 10 percent of the electorate, we are now closer to one seat in the Federal Council than the FDP is to a second with 14.3 percent," Trede noted. Four years ago, the FDP promised not to close itself off to a discussion about the future composition of the government.
